His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
Here is the extraordinary person who dedicated his life to teaching the world about Krishna consciousness, ancient India's most noble message of spiritual wisdom.


Srila Prabhupada wrote more than forty volumes of translation and commentary on such classics as Srimad-Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana), Chaitanya Charitamrita, and the Bhagavad-gita.


He wrote not only as a scholar but as a consummate practitioner. He taught not only through his writings but by the example of his life.


Throughout his works, Srila Prabhupada's mood was to convey the natural meaning of the scriptures without far-fetched interpretations, giving us an authentic rendition of the Vedic conclusions on such important topics as the purpose of human life, the nature of the soul, consciousness, and God.


In 1965, on behalf of a distinguished line of masters dating back thousands of years, Srila Prabhupada sailed from India to New York at the age of 69 to share Lord Krishna's message. He brought with him nothing more than the clothes on his back, a box of books, and $7 worth of change. In the years that followed, he traveled and taught throughouth the world, opened 108 temples, and formed the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).


Though no longer physically present among us, he lives forever in his books, and in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

O Grupo O Cortejo traz para os palcos cariocas ANTÍGONA, de Sófocles, uma das tragédias mais lidas, debatidas e montadas em todo o mundo. O texto explora, em profundidade, temas universais como amor, lealdade, moral, direito e política.



Para mergulhar nesse universo, o Grupo O Cortejo realizou um trabalho de entrega intenso no palco. As trocas de figurinos acontecem em cena aberta, dando aos espectadores a oportunidade de ver os atores montando e desmontando suas personagens, vestindo e se despindo de suas dores e convicções.



O espetáculo acontece na Casa da Glória, novo espaço cultural da cidade. Para O Cortejo, a escolha de um espaço cênico intimista, que foge ao convencional, só reforça essa noção de que o público é parte da trama, testemunha privilegiada dos fatos.



Apostando na modernidade, mas sem perder o respeito e o contato com o texto clássico, o grupo traça um paralelo estético entre as culturas grega e africana. A adoração aos deuses - e os sacrifícios feitos em nome deles - são encenados ao som de uma voz coral, que interpreta canções que têm como base os ritmos africanos, com músicos em cena que conduzem todo o espetáculo.



Antígona é o terceiro espetáculo profissional do grupo O Cortejo, fundado em 2004 por Edson Zille, e com sede própria em Laranjeiras. Concebida por ex-alunos do curso de Artes Cênicas da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNI-RIO), a companhia teatral aposta na multiplicidade estética para construir seus espetáculos, ricos em referências a outras culturas, e que sempre contam com uma voz coral. A proximidade com a platéia é outro traço marcante das montagens do grupo, que investe em espaços cênicos e modos de atuação que incluam o espectador na trama.

The Balkans (often referred to as the Balkan Peninsula, although the two are not coterminous) is a geopolitical and cultural region of southeastern Europe. The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains, which run through the centre of Bulgaria into eastern Serbia. The region has a combined area of 550,000 km2 (212,000 sq mi) and a population of 55 million people.[citation needed]

"Balkan" comes from a Turkish word meaning "a chain of wooded mountains".[1] The ancient Greek name for the Balkan Peninsula was the "Peninsula of Haemus” (Χερσόνησος τοῦ Αἵμου, Chersónēsos tou Haímou). Romans considered the Rhodope Mountains to be the northern limit of the Peninsula of Haemus and the same limit applied approximately to the border between Greek and Latin use in the region (this was later called Jireček Line [2]). The Balkans are also referred to as Southeastern Europe.
